Houston History: The Galleria And Uptown : A brief history of The Galleria and Uptown I love this - the history of the Galleria and Uptown, likely due to my love for shopping, dining and sheer amazement of the people who can "ice skate", including my son, took to the ice like bees to honey. I lived in the area and managed several multi-family communities there before moving to the "burbs". It was the 1st mall where you could watch a movie, enjoy a nice meal and shop till you drop, all while your vehicle was tucked safely away in the parking garage. From the late 70's through the early 90's, my favorite place - from single to married to having a family, the iconic Galleria never disappointed!
