Houston History: The Galleria And Uptown

Houston History: The Galleria And Uptown : A brief history of The Galleria and Uptown I love this - the history of the Galleria and Uptown, likely due to my love for shopping, dining and sheer amazement of the people who can "ice skate", including my son, took to the ice like bees to honey. I lived in the area and managed several multi-family communities there before moving to the "burbs". It was the 1st mall where you could watch a movie, enjoy a nice meal and shop till you drop, all while your vehicle was tucked safely away in the parking garage. From the late 70's through the early 90's, my favorite place - from single to married to having a family, the iconic Galleria never disappointed! After Second Flood In 11 Months, Property Owners Left Asking Why Houston Flood April 2016 Houston Flood April 2016 Harris County Flood Control  always talks about planning for the 100-year storm—the worst 1% of storms. Monday’s flood was a 500-year storm —the worst .2% of storms. In the wake of such a storm, citizens are eager to question how such flooding could happen and point fingers in all directions. Let's not forget that in the nation’s fourth-largest city, such a weather event could have caused much more damage. Houstonians did their best to manage the unmanageable, proving just how heroic they can be along the way. Homeowners, city officials and business are on the same side. Flooding is the common enemy , not each other.   Shared by AptExpert  Kathy Curtis Houston pulled together to help each other this week in all areas and walks of life in the wake of this event! From our own Houston Texans visiting the temporary housing shelters, to major corporati

Rents for Houston Homes and Apartments Are Still Rising but at a much slower pace amid the oil slump according to news reports!

Rents for Houston homes and apartments are still rising, albeit at a much slower pace amid the oil slump, according to two new reports. Apartment rents grew by 1.7 percent year over year in December, the sixth straight month where year-over-year rents fell. For comparison, apartment rents grew 5.5 percent in December 2014, according to Axiometrics, a Dallas-based multifamily data provider. Houston apartment renters paid an average of $1,064 per month in December.   The average occupancy rate was 93.5 percent, according to Axiometrics.  Sponsored by Axiometrics predicts apartment rent growth will continue to decline during the first quarter of 2016 as crude oil prices plummet below $30 a barrel and energy companies announce more job cuts. However, Axiometrics believes Houston’s multifamily market may rebound next year. “Overall job growth in Houston’s diversified economy is still positive, and we are forecasting the metro’s apartment market to rebound later
